Hi chaps how’s it going? What you up to this minute right now?
We are good thanks! Right now there are loads of new tracks in production. We just finished one called ‘Bad Djembe’ which is just a killer deep percussive track. We are also working on a few disco tinged nuggets. Its hard to stick to one sound and we have massively diverse tastes and influences.
We love your artist name, what made you come up with FISH FROM JAPAN? Any story behind how you came up with the name?
Haha, thanks. Well we wanted something that wasn’t your common or garden electronic act name. At the same time we are into Japanese art and culture and it came together after looking at some cool prints of carp one of us was buying for our bedroom. Its not to everyone’s tastes, but we don’t really care!
Where did you come across sexonwax and what do you think of the other artists and tracks on the label? Anything stand out or you big fans of?
Sure, we knew the label and of course 16B’s work from years back. Right now we are really digging the Mindskap stuff you are putting out. That guy seems like a real talent.
Name your top 5 cities in the world you’d like to play at and any clubs you got on your list ?
London, Amsterdam, Miami, Istanbul and of course Tokyo. We’ll play anywhere that’ll have us and are always open to invites!
If you had one wish each what would it be ?
World peace obviously. And maybe a better wi-fi connection.
The music industry is constantly on the move with new technology and ideas, what could you suggest that would make life better for all artists ?
The best thing artists can do is help each other out. Its never been easier to support your fellow musicians ( via social networking) but somehow its just not happening in our eyes. Technology advances have been really liberating but its also causing a lot of very mediocre music to be circulated. So we’d say make great music and help out your peers.
Who’s your fav DJS and producers at the moment, top 3 ?
Its funny because they are kinda two distinct things. So many producers aren’t proper DJs and vice-versa. We like anyone who’s a bit different and bold really. I can’t remember the last time I was blown away by a DJ set. Maybe Dixon a few years ago. Axel Bowman always makes fresh stuff as does Rampa. We also really dig Bicep, so that’s three producers for ya!
